Visas For Libyan Nationals

1 August 2016

The Malta Chamber and the Central Visa Unit have signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the issuing of D-Visas to Libyan individuals intending to carry out business in Malta.  Signed by Malta Chamber President Anton Borg, the MoU formalises the relationship between the Chamber and the Central Visas Unit, in collaborating to simplify and facilitate this process.

This process is available exclusively to members of the Malta Chamber, and the Libyan Maltese Chamber of Commerce (within the Malta Chamber).   This visa application process is limited to business travellers and cannot be extended to family members. The Visa will be issued for a minimum validity period of 91 days, up to a maximum period of 1 year.

The first step in the application process is the submission of a scanned copy of the applicant’s passport.  This will be presented to the CVU who will carry out preliminary checks on the applicant.  Once the CVU have carried out the preliminary checks, the applicant will be asked to submit the following documents in original through the host, to the Malta Chamber for onward processing by CVU:

-        A machine readable valid passport of the applicant;
-        a letter of invitation issued by the host to the applicant;
-        a visa application form duly filled in and signed by the applicant. All fields need to be filled in;
-        a Declaration of Proof, as per attachment A;
-        a medical and travel insurance policy;
-        flight ticket including return ticket;
-        proof of accommodation and of sufficient subsistence in Malta;
-        written description of reason for business trip, length of stay together with description of relationship with host in Malta;
-        €66.00 in cash;
-        2 recent passport size photos taken against a white background as per ICAO standards

Such authorization does not bind the CVU to issue a visa.

This agreement does not apply to Libyan business individuals who are already within the territory of Malta.
